LED Light Bulbs
LED–also known as Light Emitting Diodes–are gaining popularity due to their energy efficiency and long lasting light bulbs. They are more durable than the traditional light bulb. They can last up to 60,000 hours longer than a traditional light bulb and have about 90 percent more efficiency by using far less electricity than the typical light bulb.
LED light bulbs do have a higher price tag than fluorescent bulbs but last longer and keep the electric costs down. This makes them much better in the long run.
An LED light will last for over 7 years of consistent use before needing replacement. On average, LED bulbs last 10 times as long as compact fluorescent bulbs, and 133 times longer than typical incandescent bulbs.
LEDs are able to withstand shock, vibration, and extreme temperature.
LEDs are very safe lights. They don’t generate heat and feel cool when you touch them, so if they are turned on for hours they don’t heat up and aren’t at risk for causing a fire.
They do take a few seconds to attain their full glow of brightness which is something to remember when you turn on a light with an LED light bulb.
When the life of the LED light bulb has been reached, the bulb becomes dim and still gives off lower light instead of fully burning out like a traditional light bulb.
LED light bulbs don’t flicker like traditional light bulbs sometimes do.
They are capable of functioning on low voltage which makes them useful for solar energy and in rural areas that are energy challenged.
LEDs are made from nontoxic materials, unlike fluorescent lighting that uses mercury that may pose a danger to the environment. LEDs are also recyclable and considered eco friendly.
LEDs are quickly replacing traditional incandescent light bulbs. LEDs are rapidly becoming the preferred lighting solution for both professional and residential users. LED technology is improving and producing brighter LED bulbs.
LEDs are currently used for commercial and residential lighting and on many transportation vehicles. LED light bulbs are great for desk lamps, reading lights, night lights, Christmas lights, security lights, accent lights over portraits and paintings, or as outside highlighting for a landscape or as a spot light. They also light up signs.
